Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Wednesday said the Forest (Conservation) Amendment Act (FCA), 2023 will not affect Nagaland as the state is not included. However, he said the state government will deliberate and issue a statement.

Rio said, “That is not the issue, we are not included. As I have told you, we feel that we are protected and when we went through we are not included. So we will deliberate and give a statement.”

Meanwhile, Rio also stated the issue of Urban Local Body (ULB) elections will be discussed during the monsoon session.

There has been plenty of apprehension regarding FCA with many organisations urging the State government to pass a law immediately against the implementation of the Act in Nagaland.

Mizoram Government adopted an official Resolution on 22nd August opposing FCA to “protect the rights and interests of the people of Mizoram.”
