Feb29 FC from Dimapur lifted the first Open Futsal Tournament organised by Khensa Students’ Union (KSU) under the aegis of Mokokchung District Football Association (MDFA) at Asameyaa Futsal Turf, Khensa on May 3. Dr Tiatemsu Mollier Asst. Professor FAC Mokokchung served as the Guest of Honour.
Feb29 FC emerged victorious in the inaugural Open Futsal Tournament organized by KSU, edging out Playoff Pursuit FC in a nail-biting final with a scoreline of 3-2. The match was a rollercoaster of intensity from start to finish, keeping spectators on the edge of their seats.
Shijung, wearing jersey number 11 for Feb29 FC, made a crucial opening goal in the 13th minute, catching Playoff Pursuit FC off guard. Despite dominating early proceedings, Playoff Pursuit FC found themselves level at 1-1 in the 16th minute courtesy of an ‘own goal’ by Feb29 FC.
The game Intensified further as both teams traded blows, with Apu Chishi, donning jersey number 9, putting Feb29 FC ahead once again with a well-taken goal in the 32nd minute, strengthening their defence. Despite Playoff Pursuit FC’s relentless efforts to break through, their attacks were repelled time and again by the strong defense of their opponents.
Apu Chishi proved to be the hero once more for Feb29 FC, sealing their victory with another clinical finish in the 35th minute. However, Playoff Pursuit FC refused to go down without a fight, as Bapen, wearing jersey number 26, pulled one back to make it 3-2.
In the end, Feb29 FC held firm to clinch the title, with their strong performance earning them the honor of being crowned champions of the first Open Futsal Tournament 2024.

The champion, “Feb29 FC,” walked away with a cash prize of Rupees Fifty Thousand (50,000) along with a trophy and certificates, while the runner-up, Playoff Pursuit FC, received a cash prize of Rupees Thirty Thousand (30,000) along with certificates.
Bapen from Playoff Pursuit FC bagged the title of Highest Goal Scorer with 28 goals scored in the tournament. The Best Goalkeeper award was received by Mughato of Feb29 FC, while Pursunep of Playoff Pursuit FC was awarded the “Player of the Tournament.” Each of the individual players received certificates and Rupees three thousand each.
Earlier, in his address, Tiatemsu Mollier acknowledged the owner of the Asameyaa Futsal Turf for spearheading such a commendable project, emphasizing its significance beyond mere business, as it provides a platform for youth to engage in futsal, promoting fitness, friendships, and interpersonal connections.
Mollier commended the KSU for successfully organizing the inaugural Open Futsal Tournament, recognizing the challenges involved and the collective effort that led to its success.
Mollier shared insights he gained from the football game, emphasizing the talent of Nagaland players while acknowledging a difference in mentality compared to players from other states. He noted a hesitancy among Nagaland players, contrasting it with the “winning mentality” of players from other states. However, he encouraged Nagaland players to recognize their potential and embrace opportunities to showcase their talents on various platforms. As someone from a teaching background, Mollier highlighted the challenges graduates face in finding employment, suggesting that extracurricular talents such as sports or singing offer viable career paths alongside formal education.
Mollier urged players to capitalize on platform opportunities to contribute to national and international levels, emphasizing the potential for personal growth and societal impact through participation in sports and other endeavors.
A total of 24 teams participated in the First Open Futsal Tournament 2024 organized by the Khensa Students’ Union under the aegis of the Mokokchung District Football Association, including two teams from Dimapur, one team from Tuensang, and one team from Akuluto.
