The FIDE World Junior Chess Championship began at Gift City, Gandhinagar in Gujarat on 1st June 2024. Around 230 players from 44 countries are participating in various categories of the championship. The event will conclude on 14th June 2024.
The open section features 125 players, including 13 Grandmasters (GMs), with GM Abhimanyu Mishra from the USA as the top seed. The girls’ section includes 101 players, with International Master (IM) Divya Deshmukh from India as the top seed.
The championship was inaugurated by the symbolic first move, made by Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand and Geet Sethi.
Mughaho Awomi, an International Arbiter from Nagaland, is serving as a Sector Arbiter at the FIDE World Junior Chess Championship.
