The Fifth session of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly was adjourned Sine Die by the Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Sharingain Longkumer on 29th August 2024.
The Speaker in his concluding remarks said that though it was a brief sitting, it was a very fruitful and meaningful deliberation on topics of vital interest for the State. He stated that besides many important businesses, they have passed six bills, and could also take up seven subjects of paramount importance for discussion. On the discussion under Rule-48, 50 minutes were allocated to four members. On the discussion on Matters of Urgent Public Importance under Rule-50, in two days altogether, 28 Members had participated by allocating hours, minutes and under Rule-54, Calling attention to matters of Urgent Public Importance 25 minutes were allocated, and stated that it was encouraging to see the members using the medium of zero hour to highlight issues concerning to the welfare of the people of the state.
Longkumer further expressed his gratitude to all sections of the House in particular to the Leader of the House, and the Deputy Chief Ministers, and all the members across party lines for their active participation and cooperation to him and the Deputy Speaker in the smooth conduct of the business of the House maintaining the highest level of dignity and decorum.
He also extended gratitude to the Chief Secretary, the Director General of Police, and the team of officials for all their assistance in ensuring the smooth conduct of the Session. Longkumer also thanked the members of the media fraternity for their role in keeping the public informed about the proceedings of the House and officers and staff of NLA for their dedication and efforts in ensuring smooth conduct of the session and adjourn the House sine die.
The six bills that were passed unanimously by the House included Nagaland Goods and Services Tax (Ninth Amendment) Bill, 2024; The Nagaland Work-Charged and Casual Employees Regulation (First Amendment) Bill, 2024; Nagaland Municipal (Amendment) Bill, 2024; Disqualification on Ground of Defection in Urban Local Bodies Bill, 2024; The Nagaland Road Safety Authority (Second Amendment) Bill, 2024; and, Global Open University Nagaland (Second Amendment) Bill, 2024
