Taste of Noklak Society (TONS) and the Noklak SP Office have been providing training in livelihood to the villages and Self Help Groups (SHG) on a regular basis.

Led by the motto ‘Fighting drugs with livelihood’ in the Indo Myanmar border, the trainings were conducted under the theme ‘Cops Community Oriented Police service’.

The Lengyu village farmers and nine SHGs were given Food Processing Training at the TONS office. Lengyu village is rich in many fruit products but the fruits are often wasted because of lack of training in management and awareness. The farmers and SHGs were given training sessions on making juice, pickles, chips, candies and other value added products.

Earlier, similar trainings were given to the farmers of Pangsha village, Yokao village and Kingniu village by TONS and Noklak Police.

SP Noklak Dr Pritpal Kaur, IPS stated the training is a holistic approach towards society empowerment where both males and females learn skills and later make teams to work together with the concept of division of labour in different jobs from farming to food processing and marketing. This not only helps the farmers to be empowered, she said, but also helps school dropout students and youngsters in search of employment to get engaged in entrepreneurship. She said other villages would also get training based on the local raw materials and resources available there to help preserve local biodiversity and traditional knowledge.

“Every society or SHG should teach another society to rise together as whole district,” Dr Kaur added.
