Upper Khel, Aonglenden of Ungma village in Mokokchung witnessed a fire outbreak this morning around 9:00 AM, resulting in the complete destruction of one house and partial damage to another. The estimated loss from the incident is approximately ₹15 lakhs.
The Officer-in-Charge of the Fire Department, Mokokchung, informed Nagaland Tribune that they received the fire alert at 9:20 AM. Responding promptly, three fire tenders—two from the South Fire Station, Marepkong, and one from the North Fire Station, Sungkomen—were dispatched to the scene within 10 minutes.
The Officer-in-charge (OC) informed “Each fire tender was manned by a crew of six, including a driver, a Duty Officer, and four Jawans. Altogether, 18 personnel were involved in the firefighting efforts which included Duty Officer Razoukuolie ASI, along with two other Duty Officers, drivers, and Jawans reached the site to oversee the situation. Additionally, Assam Rifles personnel assisted in controlling the blaze.”

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) further added, “The houses in the area were closely packed, raising concerns of the fire spreading to adjacent structures. However, the fire personnel successfully contained the blaze and prevented further damage.”
The cause of the fire is unknown, according to the official, with investigations underway. “Fortunately, no fatalities or injuries were reported in the incident. Further investigations are underway to ascertain the cause of the fire,” mentioned the OC.
Local residents reported that three houses were affected by the fire. Among them, two houses were completely destroyed, while one sustained partial damage.
Meanwhile, the Indian Red Cross Mokokchung district branch along with the General secretary Dr.SS Akaba visited the three affected households which were burned down with relief materials.
