Officials from Fire Station, Kohima (South) carried out mock drill and awareness on fire safety and rescue technique for Children with Special Needs (CWSN) at Government Primary School, Lerie, Kohima on Wednesday.
Keyirangsobe Zeliang, Sub-inspector, Kohima South gave basic knowledge on fire to the students and said accidents can be avoided when addressed at the right time and in the right way. The official also said that it is important for everyone to keep in mind basic techniques of handling such situation to avert any accident which can harm and cause loss to human life and property.
Zeliang advised the children not to play with fire and in case of fire, he asked children to inculcate the habit of informing.
Anyone can call the fire station by memorizing the toll-free number using any phone, he said.
The official along with five other firemen carried out mock demonstration on how to safely put out fire with the different types of fire extinguishers. They also showed the students on how to put out fire from domestic gas cylinders. Rescue technique for evacuating injured persons were also displayed to the children during the drill.
Zeliang mentioned that mock drills are carried out mostly with students of schools and colleges.
