The First Rain Foundation, in collaboration with MITA and The Ant, held its inaugural mental health camp at the Sangtemla Multipurpose Hall, Mokokchung, on August 9, marking the start of a monthly initiative aimed at reducing stigma, raising awareness, and building an inclusive environment for those seeking mental health care.
Ahead of the event, the foundation released a video featuring local voices from Mokokchung speaking in support of mental health awareness, breaking stigma, and encouraging open conversations on mental well-being. The pre-event campaign highlighted that the camp is intended not as a one-time activity, but as part of an ongoing community movement towards inclusivity, sensitivity, and mental health support.
Sangtemla Ward Council extended support by providing the hall free of charge.
The programme began with a prayer led by Rev. Ponen Longchar, Senior Pastor of MTBA, followed by a tea session that created an informal space for interaction between participants and organizers.
The camp saw over 20 attendees who were able to consult with two psychiatrists, a medical doctor, a counsellor, and a team of 12 volunteers. Services were provided in a manner aimed at ensuring privacy and reducing judgment or stigma. Notably, two participants, who did not require medication, were refunded their consultation fees.

Participants gave positive feedback, with several expressing that the camp offered a supportive and respectful environment. Many also indicated interest in attending future sessions.
The mental health camp will now be held on the second Saturday of every month, with the next session scheduled for September 13, 2025, starting at 9:00 AM at the same venue. A fee of ₹500 will cover both consultation and a one-month supply of medication.
