The first round of IMI 5.0 will take place from 7-12 August 2023 to vaccinate missed-out children and pregnant women to achieve better coverage and protect against life-threatening diseases, a DIPR report informed.

The Mission Indradhanush (MI), a flagship immunization intensification drive launched in December 2014, has successfully enhanced Routine Immunization under the Universal Immunization Program (UIP). Over nine years, the mission has significantly increased immunization coverage, with India reaching 76.4% (NFHS-5, 2019-21) compared to 62% (NFHS-4, 2015-16), and Nagaland reaching 58% (NFHS-5, 2019-21) compared to 35% (NFHS-4, 2015-16).

Despite these achievements, the COVID-19 pandemic and other challenges have impeded progress. IMI 5.0 (Intensified Mission Indradhanush), set to roll out in three rounds in 2023, aims to vaccinate children up to 5 years and eligible pregnant women who have missed doses.

The unique features of IMI 5.0 include flexible session timings, digital data recording through U-WIN, and a heightened focus on reaching underserved populations.
