The first state-level school choir competition took place on May 10 at RCEMPA, Jotsoma.
Kevileno Angami, Commissioner & Secretary of School Education & SCERT, in her exhortation acknowledged the music teachers, mentors, principals, and students for their contributions. She thanked Samagrashiksha for sponsoring the event and noted that music was piloted in 46 schools in 2018-19, with 10 schools participating in the current competition.
Music is now a formal board subject, said Angami, emphasizing its significance as an asset and a career path. “For Nagas, music’s integral role in culture has transitioned into an examinable subject. Choir music promotes harmony, teamwork, discipline, and dedication. Practice fosters consistency, shaping students to showcase their talents in future endeavors,” stated Commissioner & Secretary.
Among 46 government higher secondary schools in Nagaland, 25 submitted videos for the state-level choir competition where ten schools were selected to compete.
