Earlier, the tournament kicked off with an opening ceremony presided over by H. Wongto, President of the NDPP, Tuensang Region. In his speech, Wongto highlighted the importance of sports in fostering unity and development in the community. “Sports is a powerful tool that brings people together,” he said, noting the Nagaland government’s renewed focus on sports infrastructure under Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio’s leadership.

“The government is actively working on new facilities, such as the AstroTurf ground and the multi-disciplinary stadium at Loyem Memorial Ground, to support the younger generation,” the President of the NDPP, Tuensang Region said.

He also acknowledged the progress of athletes in Nagaland, citing their success at state, national, and international levels. He urged the youth to pursue sports as a serious career option. “I encourage young people to take up sports with dedication. There are no shortcuts—no backdoor appointments or VIP recommendations in this field. Only hard work and focus can take a player to the highest levels,” Wongto said.

Further, he called on participants to play with true team spirit and commitment, stating that sportsmanship is key. “Success in sports doesn’t come easily, but if you stay focused and keep pushing, nothing is impossible,” Wongto remarked, underscoring that the rewards of perseverance in sports extend far beyond the playing field.

The closing ceremony, graced by retired District Sports Officer Yonghopi, celebrated the competitive spirit and achievements of all participants.
