Former Mizoram minister resigns from MPCC primary membership

Aizawl: A number of Congress leaders at the unit level in Aizawl South-III constituency have submitted their resignations since Thursday

In a dramatic political development, former Agriculture Minister K.S. Thanga submitted his resignation as primary member of the Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC).

KS Thanga was member of the party’s Public Affairs Committee (PAC), which was recently dissolved by the state PCC president Lalsawta, chairman of the MPCC’s Boundary Committee and member of the party’s campaign committee.

In his resignation letter submitted to Lalsawta on Friday, KS Thanga criticized the former for not following the Constitution of the MPCC as well as forcing 5-time Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla to resign as chief of the state PCC in 2021 before expiry of the presidential term.

Former student leader, KS Thanga, who even went underground, joined the Congress in 1994, was elected for 2 consecutive terms since 2008 from Aizawl South – III assembly constituency, and was inducted as Parliamentary Secretary for 8 years before becoming a minister.

He mentioned in the letter that the main reason for his resignation is the ‘dictatorial’ approach of the MPCC chief Lalsawta.

A number of Congress leaders at the unit level in Aizawl South-III constituency have submitted their resignations since Thursday which included 2 general secretaries of the MPCC from the constituency.

Congress legislature party (CLP) leader and former minister Zodintluanga Ralte also had resigned from the post of treasurer of the MPCC on April 21 citing ‘dictatorial’ style of functioning of Lalsawta.
