Khiamniungan politician and former MLA and Advisor L. Khumo passed away today at his residence at Purana Bazar, Dimapur. Born on February 1, 1972, Khumo is said to have breathed his last on February 20 this morning.
Khumo served as a political leader for the 57 AC Thonoknyu Constituency and for the people of Khiamniungan in general. He served for two consecutive terms in his political career where he worked as the Advisor for Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Evaluation and Economic & Statistics in his last term from 2018-2023.
The mortal remains of the Khiamniungan leader will be laid to rest tomorrow in Thonoknyu, following funeral services held in Dimapur and Thonoknyu.
Following his demise, condolences have been extended to the bereaved family. In a condolence message, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio mentioned that Khumo was a hardworking leader, with a big heart and a good soul. “In the few years of working together, I found him to be a warm and cheerful person, who genuinely cared for the society’s welfare. His demise is a great loss to the Nagas, in general, and to the Khiamniungan community in particular,” stated Rio.
The Chief Minister noted that his good deeds will always be remembered, even in his absence. “He will be truly missed but let us treasure and celebrate his life. It is my humble prayer that his good legacy will be carried on,” stated Rio.
Rio, on behalf of the Government of Nagaland and on behalf of his family, extended his deepest condolences to the bereaved family members. “Our prayers and sympathies go out to the family members, relatives and friends of Mr. L. Khumo as we mourn his demise. May you find comfort and strength in the Word of God as you come to terms with this loss,” mentioned Rio.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Y. Patton referred to Khumo as a “A stalwart who worked tirelessly for the welfare of the people, his contributions and legacy will continue to inspire others”. Patton extended heartfelt condolences to friends and family of Khumo in their moment of grief.
BJP Noklak
Expressing shock and pain over the sudden demise of L. Khumo, BJP Noklak stated that Khumo was a tall figure and an influential person, who contributed immensely towards the people of Khiamniungans and the Nagas as a whole. “He was a very upright person and fatherly figure to the Khiamniungans. His death has left a vacuum which shall be difficult to fill,” stated a statement issued by H. Pushing, President, BJP Noklak.
The unit also conveyed its deepest sympathy to the bereaved family members and prayed that the Almighty God grant comfort and solace.region
NDPP Noklak region
Meanwhile, all the rank and file of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) Noklak Region expressed grief at the demise of L Khumo. “L Khumo was an upright and successful leader, who led his people through his deeds. He was instrumental in bringing upliftment of Noklak district. In his demise we have lost a leader who had larger goals and commitment in providing leadership to his people,” stated the NDPP Noklak region.
“At this time of grief we convey our heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family members and pray that the departed soul rest in eternal peace,” it added.
