Former Nagaland Minister Y.M. Yollow Konyak no more

Kohima: He was the state’s Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change for a short term from 2022-23

Former Nagaland Minister Y.M. Yollow Konyak is said to have passed away at New Delhi on Wednesday after prolonged illness. He was 53.

He was the state’s Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change for a short term from 2022-23.

Konyak first contested the state assembly election in 2013 from 42 Wakching Assembly Constituency in Mon district as an Independent candidate and won the seat. In the 2018 election, he contested with Naga People’s Front party ticket and was re-elected to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly from the same constituency.

In 2022 April, Yollow and 20 other NPF MLA merged with Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party. However, he filed his nomination for the recently held election to the 14th NLA from Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) but later withdrew his candidature.

Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton was amongst the earliest to express his sadness over the demise of the politician. Patton wrote on twitter:

“Deeply saddened by the passing of former Minister Shri Y.M. Yollow Konyak. His leadership and contributions to Nagaland will always be remembered and valued. My heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time. May his soul rest in peace!”

Adviser to Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio also wrote:

“Sad to hear the demise of Former Nagaland Minister Shri. Y. M. Yollow Konyak. He was a fine gentleman who had a deep concern for the people. May his soul rest in peace.”
