Following the split in NSCN K (Yung Aung) faction, a top leader from the splinter group has surrendered to the Assam Rifles last evening near Aboi in Nagaland’s Mon district.

A Khampei Opeiham was the Chairman of the Konyak Region, Cabinet Kilonser cum Central Executive Committee Member.

He was with NSCN K Yung Aung however during the scuffle he joined the splinter group.

Khampei was given a safe passage to enter India and was received by the Assam Rifles and Nagaland Police Mon.

Khampei is also said to be the mastermind of 2022 Independence Day attack at the Assam Rifles post in Nyasha and Longwa.

Earlier in a press release dated 12 July 2023, Nyeiton, Kilo Kilonser of the NSCN K splinter group had notified that the group was discharging Khampei on “health ground” on 12 July 2023 “as per the recommendation from the National workers and it’s regional authorities of Konyak Region.” He therefore urged Naga civil societies to approve him “to participate in any public discourse.”

He served the nation with dutifully and bearing a good character at his best capacity, Nyeiton said of Khampei and wished him a “good health and best of luck in his future career”.
