Four Naga Councils in Manipur urge GoI, NSCN-IM to expedite political solution

Tamenglong: NSCN stands resolutely for the entirety of Naga integration, says Anthony Shimray

A People’s Consultative Meeting on Indo-Naga Political Process was organised by the Rongmei Naga Council Manipur on 6th December 2023 at Tamenglong in Manipur. Following the meeting, four councils urged the Government of India and NSCN-IM to “expedite the process and bring honourable solution speedily.”

Two declarations on the ensuing Naga peace talks were also made by the councils’ heads that included – Ramkung, President, Rongmei Naga Council Manipur; Leibakchao Bariam, President, Inpui Naga Union, Tamenglong; Apung Daime, President, Zeme Naga Council Manipur; ID Chunlubou, President, Liangmai Naga Council, Tamenglong.

The declaration stated:

  1. We reassure our unwavering support to the Naga National Movement for self-determination.
  2. We also assure our unreserved co-operation to the Framework Agreement of 2015 signed between the Government of India and the NSCN representing the Nagas.

According to Ukhrul Times, the People’s Consultative Meeting was attended by various Naga sub-tribes of Tamenglong district, leaders of civil society organisations, religious leaders, village chairmen/secretaries and leaders of various organisations. NSCN/GPRN Army General Anthony Shimray, MC, VC, Longvibu, Naga Army graced the meeting as the resource person, it said in its report.

In his speech, Shimray affirmed that NSCN-IM is committed to integration of the entire Naga land. “NSCN stands resolutely for the entirety of Naga integration, unwavering in its commitment to safeguard every inch of our land. Our allegiance is steadfast, pledged not only to the cause of our people but also to the divine. We stand firm, unwavering in our dedication to our mission, never wavering in our loyalty to God or our fellow Nagas,” he said.

He also said at the meeting that the blaming the Government of India or anyone was not its path, however, NSCN-IM recognises the divide-and-rule tactics but stand resolute in its strategy. “Within the NSCN CE, society, church, and family, there may be black sheep, yet our cause and vision within our hearts must remain pure. No force can deny our sovereignty, with the ingredients of our flag and constitution already recognized by the Government of India,” Shimray stated in Tamenglong.
