The Free Martial Arts Summer Coaching Camp and Tournament, organized by the Mokokchung District

Martial Arts Association (MDMAA), concluded on July 5 at the Multipurpose Sports Complex,

Mokokchung, with a total of 219 participants completing the two-week training program.

Open to individuals aged 5 and above, the camp offered intensive training in six martial arts disciplines—Kung Fu, Wushu, Karate, Kickboxing, Muay Thai, and Judo—under the guidance of experienced instructors: Imyuangdang Leo (Karate), Toshimeren (Kung Fu), Metlesh (Muay Thai), and

Bendangakum, 4th DAN – NKMAA (Wushu and Judo).

Gracing the closing ceremony as Guest of Honour, MMC Councillor for Youth Resources and Sports,

Imkumniba Kichu, commended the organizers for providing free training and for making martial arts accessible at the grassroots level. Calling the camp a “meaningful and empowering initiative,” he emphasized that martial arts go beyond physical practice to instill values such as discipline, humility, respect, and focus.

Kichu encouraged participants to give their full energy, embrace challenges, and develop confidence and self-control—skills that extend beyond the training mat. Referring to martial artists as “shape shifters and tomorrow makers,” he cited Bruce Lee’s quote: “Adapt what is useful, reject what is useless, and add what is specifically your own.”

He also urged youths to avoid intoxication and take inspiration from Faith In Action from Nagaland, which set a world record for the highest martial arts kick on India’s Got Talent on July 5, 2023.

The event concluded with medal and certificate distribution across various age categories, followed by martial arts demonstrations showcasing the progress of the trainees.

Speaking at the event, Rongsentoshi Jamir, President of MDMAA, announced that regular martial arts classes will begin soon and revealed plans to organize an All-Nagaland Martial Arts Open Championship in December 2025. He highlighted the success of the camp, noting the positive response from both participants and parents.

On behalf of the parents, Dr. Sarundi Walling, Assistant Chief Technical Officer at KVK, lauded the initiative and appreciated the instructors for their dedication. He encouraged the youth to pursue martial arts with discipline and determination, noting that it can also open avenues for employment and national/international participation.

The MDMAA thanked the team of instructors and volunteers for dedicating their time and expertise to not just teaching techniques but shaping character, building resilience, and nurturing a disciplined generation.
