In an order issued by Commissioner of Police and District Magistrate, Dimapur on September 26, the Gau Dhwaj Yatra, (promotion of a ban on cow slaughter), has been prohibited in the districts of Dimapur, Chumoukidema, and Niuland.

The order comes In pursuance of the State Government’s directive dated September 12, citing concerns over potential disturbances to public order. The prohibition is further reinforced by the provisions contained in para (1) (a) (i) of Aticle 371(A) of the Constitution of India, which grants special safeguards to Nagaland, particularly in matters related to religious and social practices.
