GHSS Peren celebrates Platinum Jubilee

Peren: The school honoured its former heads, assistant heads, supporting staff and its alumni in recognition of their immense contributions towards the school at the function

Government Higher Secondary School Peren (GHSS) on Saturday celebrated its platinum jubilee (75 years) with Advisor of School Education & SCERT, K T Sukhalu, IAS (Rtd) as the special guest.

The occasion was celebrated at the school premises in Peren.

The programme began with the unveiling of the jubilee monolith by the special guest followed by the jubilee anthem.

K T Sukhalu, IAS (Rtd), in his address, lauded the school for its splendid performance over the years and assured the government’s support in imparting quality education in interior areas. He advised the teachers to be sincere in their duties and stay committed to their professions.

In a huge boost to the district, Sukhalu had on 7 April this year introduced science stream at GHSS, Peren.

The advisor also released the jubilee souvenir at the jubilee function.

Former Chief Minister T R Zeliang, who graced the occasion as the chief host, acknowledged the services by the teaching faculties, management board, pioneers and non-teaching staff of GHSS Peren for the upliftment of the school and congratulated them.

The chairman of United Democratic Alliance (UDA) also spoke about the importance of the Nagaland Education Project – The Lighthouse – Nagaland: Enhancing Classroom Teaching and Resources – (NECTAR) sponsored by World Bank and appealed the school’s officials to start implementing the project at the earliest.  Educational institution acts as incubator for the students to achieve quality heights in the future, he added.

T R Zeliang later posted on his official Facebook page: “A school that was established in the year 1947, with just two teachers, has been instrumental in providing education to the people of Peren District. The growth trajectory of the school, in all aspects, have been upwards with each year. With the upgradation to Higher Secondary School and having Arts and Science Streams, it only vindicates the growth and quality education that it provides.”

On Twitter, he wished the school: “All the best for years ahead.”

The other highlights of the program included cultural shows and special presentation by students of GHSS Peren.

Principal Director School Education Thavaseelan K IAS, Chairperson of Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) Asano Sekhose, Rtd Asst Director and former Headmaster Suipeu Iheilung and former minister Neiba Ndang were other dignitaries who addressed the gathering during the platinum jubilee celebration.
