The Global Naga Forum (GNF), in response to the appeal for the fire-ravaged Naga village of Solo Chiu village in Myanmar, carried out a GNF Relief Mission on 12 March.
The GNF relief consignment consisted of 3750 kg rice, 300 kg dal, 350 kg salt, assorted biscuits and soap for children, clothes for men, women, children, shoes, blankets, utensils, plates, cooking pots, cups, bed linen, mattresses, pillows and other necessities, an update from GNF informed.
It may be mentioned that on 2 February, Chiu village in Myanmar of the Khiamniungan Naga tribe, locally called Solo, was ravaged by a fire stemming from a solar battery blast, which destroyed 72 houses in the village.
A seven-member GNF Relief Mission team, led by GNF Co-Convenor and Chair and GNF for Nagas in Myanmar, Prof. Rosemary Dzuvichu; GNF Advisory Board Member, Abeiu Meru, Miriam Rengma, Kevitho Kera, Azo Wetsah, Chungtin Khiamniungan and Mutsoi Khiamniungan, arrived at Pangsha village in Noklak district on 11 March from Kohima and Dimapur with 200 quintals of relief materials.
The same evening, a joint meeting was held with 11 leaders of Solo Chiu village and other village leaders of New Pangsha and Dan village to discuss the transportation of materials to the affected village.
On Sunday, 12 March, the GNF relief team reached Solo Chiu village accompanied by leaders of New Pangsha village, Dan village, Angh (traditional chief) of Solo Chiu village, Khiamniungan Tribe Council member, Solo Village Council leaders and other volunteer youth from both sides of the border.
The Angh of Solo Chiu village conveyed gratitude to the GNF and all donors, stating that, ‘the bond of the Naga family beyond all borders and the love we have for each other was exemplified in the long journey undertaken to bring them the much need relief materials’.
GNF also conveyed its gratitude to all donors who responded in cash and kind to the appeal for helping the Solo Chiu villagers and all those who rendered their service along the way.
