Nagaland Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Friday convened a high-level coordination meeting at Raj Bhavan to review the status of the Kohima–Dimapur National Highway (NH-29), one of the state’s most vital road corridors. The meeting brought together key stakeholders from the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), the Nagaland Public Works Department (PWD), senior police officials, and district administrators to assess the ongoing projects and address emerging challenges.
Deliberations focused on the Peren–Dimapur, Kohima–Jessami, Kohima–Mao, and Dimapur–Kohima stretches of the highway—critical routes that connect Nagaland to neighbouring states and serve as lifelines for trade and travel. Officials highlighted both the progress achieved and the challenges encountered in these portions.
Officials from NHIDCL and the PWD (NH) presented a detailed PowerPoint briefing outlining current status of the projects.
Governor Bhalla underscored the need for proactive solutions to ensure the long-term sustainability of the highway network. He called for exploring alternate connectivity in affected areas to reduce travel disruptions and urged the incorporation of proper drainage and sewage systems to protect the roads from recurring damage. Emphasizing road safety and maintenance, the Governor highlighted the need for strict monitoring of overloaded trucks, particularly along the Nagaland–Manipur highway, which is prone to heavy freight movement.
