Governor Ganesan attends graduation of future teachers at MITE Kohima

Kohima: Governor highlights issue of teachers unwilling to serve in interiors, says teachers are expected to serve with honour and dignity

The 11th Graduation Day of Modern Institute of Teachers Education (MITE), Kohima was graced by the Governor of Nagaland La Ganesan as the special guest on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said that he was elated, joyful and duty-bound to address the graduants, the prospective teachers who are set to shoulder the responsibility of imparting quality education to the students. The Governor congratulated the future teachers who have successfully completed the courses. He also congratulated the college for the support system comprising of the management, faculty, staff, parents and community around which enabled this success. He extended his greetings and blessings upon all the noble teachers and the people behind it.

The special guest said that education is a tool for development. True education is not achieved by the mere transaction of curriculum but by empowering the students to dream as well as achieve, he said.

Governor Ganesan stated that he found the general atmosphere of educational institutions in the state of Nagaland quite friendly and congenial for learning. This combined with their commitment and the pursuit for academic and professional excellence will accelerate socio-economic development in the state, he added.

Encouraging the committed teachers, Governor said that teachers are expected to serve with honour and dignity. He mentioned that one of the problems facing our state is that not all teachers are willing to serve in the interior districts of the state and also the problems of Proxy-teaching. He stated that our state needs trained resources in every corner of the state to ensure quality education. As teachers, it is also expected of them to be well informed and to keep themselves abreast with the latest trends. The Governor stated that the prospective teachers of our state should rise to transform the system as envisioned in the National Policy on Education 2020.

During the convocation day, the Governor said that a teacher needs to be modern by integrating modern technology with education. He also said that Knowledge is available at the click of a mouse and a teacher should be more than a teacher who facilitates student’s self learning by enabling the students to search the right resource and learn on their own and construct knowledge together.

The Governor said that a teacher can be a good facilitator only when he or she is a perpetual learner. Expressing on the National Education Policy, 2020, Governor Ganesan said that NEP has not only provided a new structure and functioning mechanism but also mechanism for teacher motivation.

The Special Guest underlined that the new policy would also assess Teacher’s commitment and their efficient participation for advancement. The Governor urged upon the teacher’s that their role is demanded even outside of the school to “ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.” for sustainable development.

Governor Ganesan shared on how the state has developed through the years and also said that development cannot just be brought about by fund allocations alone. Therefore, he urged upon everyone to create a conducive environment for development; and that include peace and the change in attitude of people.

He said that as the teacher, they are tasked with the mission to train and equip the modern generation. As they receive their academic certificates, the Governor called upon everyone to commit and re-dedicate towards our role as nation builders and value builders of our society.

The Governor also handed over the certificates to Nagaland University rank holders in presence of the Chairperson of Modern Society Kaisa Mao, Principal MITE Dr. Kate Dandesh Kumar, Managing Director, Pelee Hekha and Members of Managing Board and faculty members of the college and others.

Principal MITE Dr. Kate Dandesh Kumar who gave a welcome addressed acknowledged the Governor for sparing his valuable time for the students and also said that MITE is one of the top Institutions of Teachers education in the state. He also congratulated the graduants and urged them to realize their potential contribute towards nation building.

Besides, special song was presented by Diezelhou Sothu & Co and folk dance was performed by Pukumla & Co. Lemnyei M Walim invoked God’s Blessing and the valedictory speech was delivered by Shemyung E Phom Nu 2nd Rank holder 2021-23. The program was chaired by Arrngangla Imsong and while the vote of thanks was pronounced by Dr. T.S Pandian and followed by benediction by A. Tahmao Beham.
