The mortal remains of Nagaland Governor La. Ganesan, who passed away on Independence Day, will be cremated in Chennai on Saturday.
His body, kept at his residence in T. Nagar for the public to pay homage, will be laid to rest this afternoon with full respect.
Ganesan, 80, died at 6.23 p.m. on Friday while undergoing treatment in a Chennai hospital.
He was appointed as Governor of Nagaland in February 2023, a post he held till his demise.

President Droupadi Murmu said Ganesan worked for the welfare of the people, and his contribution to Tamil Nadu and the country would be remembered.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he was pained by the passing of a devout nationalist who dedicated his life to service and expanding the BJP in Tamil Nadu, while also being deeply passionate about Tamil culture.
Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio expressed sadness by the passing of Governor Ganesan, stating that he had served the state of Nagaland with unwavering dedication.
The state government has declared a 7-day state mourning period from August 16 to 22 where the National Flag will be flown at half mast on all buildings where the national flag is regularly flown. During this period, there shall be no official entertainment by the state government departments, a notification issued by Chief Secretary Sentiyanger Imchen stated.
CM Rio and officials of the state reportedly left for Chennai this morning to attend the funeral service of late Ganesan.
