Governor of Nagaland and Assam Prof Jagdish Mukhi graced the 4th convocation of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Nagaland today at Chümoukedima Town Council Hall, stated a DIPR report.
In his address, Prof Mukhi said NIT Nagaland is the first centrally funded technical institute in the state out of 31 NITs across the country.
Prof Mukhi quoted Prime Minister Narendra Modi by saying: “Development now depends upon the quality of institutions and ideas.” In this context, NIT Nagaland is contributing significantly to various fields of engineering, technology, education and research, the governor stated, adding that NIT Nagaland is one among the rapidly growing NITs in the Northeast region of India.
He also stated that NITs are established not only to promote technical education but to promote social ethics and a new generation with a vision of a united India.

The Governor shared five points to ponder upon to all the degree awardees at the 4th convocation. Firstly, he said: “Let no geographical demarcation limit your career and life and let the global be your own playground.”
Secondly, he encouraged all the graduates to give back more to one’s community, country and humanity at large.
Thirdly, he stressed on the need to streamline the developmental growth between the urban and rural divide, stating that the task of NIT Nagaland graduates is to take technology and make it relevant to as far as the remotest community.
Fourthly, the governor said the agriculture sector, given the growth, needs more technological advancements in which mechanization and optimization of the implements are promising for a better harvest.
Finally, he advised all the graduates to be job creators rather than job hunters.
Prof Mukhi further encouraged the graduates not to look at their degree as an end to their education and stated that the degree should instead serve as a catalyst for their further pursuit of knowledge.
Testifying the words of Mahatma Gandhi – “We can believe that we got absolute independence, if and only if a lady can walk with gold in the streets even at midnight without any fear” – the governor said Nagaland is one of the few streets in the world where a small girl can walk alone in the street at midnight.
