Kohima: Visit strengthens the bond between State and Church

In a gesture of goodwill and appreciation, La Ganesan, the Governor of Nagaland, visited the Mary Help of Christians Cathedral in Kohima. On arrival, the Governor toured the Cathedral and its campus, admiring the architectural beauty and serene environment.

An informal tea session was hosted where Bishop James Thoppil warmly welcomed the Governor and expressed gratitude for accepting the invitation. The visit provided an opportunity for the Governor to engage with Bishop James Thoppil and the leaders of the Catholic Church.

Governor La Ganesan, in his address, acknowledged the remarkable sacrifices and contributions made by the Catholic Church towards the growth and progress of Nagaland. He commended the dedication and hard work that have transformed the Cathedral into a landmark of beauty and spiritual solace for the state.

“The efforts and dedication of the Church in various fields are truly commendable,” the Governor remarked. He stressed “together we can do” and promised whatever he can to support the efforts of the church for the good of the state.

During the session, key presentations were made by prominent members of the Church. Fr. Jacob Charallel presented the Church’s contributions to education, detailing various initiatives and institutions that have played a pivotal role in enhancing educational standards in the state. Fr. Sajan Joseph shed light on the Church’s social mission, emphasising the numerous programs aimed at uplifting the underprivileged and marginalised communities. Fr. Joe Mariadoss spoke on the Church’s humanitarian efforts, outlining the extensive work done in areas such as healthcare, childcare, and community development.

The visit concluded on a positive note, with mutual appreciation and a reinforced commitment to collaborative efforts for the betterment of society. The visit not only strengthened the bond between the State and the Church but also highlighted the shared vision of progress and humanitarian service, paving the way for continued collaboration in the future.
