Nature, the implementing agency of the SBI Sanjeevani – Clinic on Wheels, conducted a health awareness camp at PM Shri Government High School, Yangphi, Kiphire on October 14. The program aimed to promote healthy living habits and raise awareness among students about the harmful effects of tobacco use and the importance of personal hygiene.
During the camp, Dr P Kumaresan delivered a talk on the topic “Say No to Tobacco”. He spoke at length about the dangers of tobacco consumption and its long-term impact on health. He encouraged the students to make a firm decision to stay away from tobacco in all its forms throughout their lives.
During his session, Dr. Kumaresan explained how tobacco use causes addiction, affects major organs such as the heart, lungs, digestive system, and kidneys, and contributes to diseases like oral and lung cancer. He also discussed the negative impact of tobacco on oral health, productivity, and overall quality of life. In addition, he advised the students on ways to resist peer pressure and make responsible lifestyle choices.
Following this, Kharila Sangtam gave a practical demonstration on the “Eight Steps of Hand Washing” to emphasize the importance of maintaining good hygiene. The steps included wetting hands, applying soap, rubbing palms together, interlacing fingers, rinsing, drying with a clean towel, and using the towel to turn off the faucet—ending with the assurance that “your hands are safe.”
