The Department of Health and Family Welfare conducted the First Review meeting for the year 2025 under the Chairmanship of the Minister, Health and Family Welfare, P. Paiwang Konyak at the Directorate on February 7, 2025.
The meeting that lasted for almost seven hours deliberated upon major issues confronting the department. Opening the meeting, the minister informed the offcials from various divisions to take serious note of the meeting to ensure smooth funtioning of the department in delivering services to the people of the state.
Director cum Dean NIMSR Dr. Soumya Chakraborty highlighted the status of the college including infrastructure, manpower, academic and students activities adding that the college is well-functioning and ensuring high standards in education.
With regard to the status of the upcoming Mon medical College, the Executive engineer incharge informed that the construction was in good progress with 28 percent overall completed and exuded confidence to complete the infrastructure within the given time, ie November 2026.
On the shortage of manpower of various categories, the minister directed the Principal Director to convene a meeting without delay and submit action plan report in the next review meeting. On recruitment of staff nurses, the minister informed that the recruitment will be based on the approval of the cabinet.
The meeting also deliberated on the redundant posts and in this regard, a committee was constituted to undertake redesignation of various posts as per the need. During the discussions on transfer and posting, the Minister directed the committee to work out, prioritizing the specialists to be posted in District Hospitals. Paiwang Konyak also informed the members that excess doctors posted in some district Hospitals will be pulled out and posted in those District Hospitals where there are shortage of doctors.
On the glitches with regard to CMHIS/AB-PMJAY, the minister insisted for an immediate meeting with the insurance company and the private doctors association to iron out the greivances and bottlenecks for the smooth implementation of the insurance scheme.

Other agendas taken up for reviewing progress and status included, NESIDS project, PM-DeviNE, JICA projects, status of NHM, NSACS programmes, action taken report of the last tour programme, update on Tertiary Cancer Care Centre, etc.
The minister informed the members to submit action plan report of all the issues in the next review meeting which will be held after two months.
Paiwang also directed shutting down of pharmacies without license and without qualified pharmacists
Minister Health and Family Welfare P. Paiwang Konyak directed the Drug Control to immediately shut down all pharmacies operating without registration, license or operating by unqualified pharmacists found during the state-wide tour held in November.
In addition to the 24 pharmacies which have been directed to shut down, the minister informed the members that all those found operating illegally in Dimapur, Nuiland, Chumukedima, Mokokchung, Tuensang and Mon, without the required certification, does not hold any merit to continue. He cautioned that same suit will be followed across the state, if detected during the upcoming state wide tour programme.
He also noted that streamling of Drug licencing will open up avenues for qualified pharmacists for job oppurtunities.
