Healthcare is emerging as a basic human right:V Kezo, Commissioner & Secretary speaks at Expanded Packages of Services CHPC training

A five-day training program on Expanded Packages of Services under Comprehensive Primary Health Care (CPHC) began for Medical Officers of Primary Health Centers and Urban Primary Health Centers on February 13, informed the DIPR. The inaugural function took place at the conference hall of the Directorate of Health & Family Welfare, Kohima.

V Kezo, Commissioner & Secretary, DoHFW, addressed the Medical Officers present, highlighting that healthcare is emerging as a basic human right. He expressed hope that the training would re-orient their approach towards duties and responsibilities. Kezo commended Chunlikha PHC for innovative management practices, encouraging Medical Officers to exceed routine duties and become powerful agents of change in transforming health-seeking behavior.

Dr. Ritu Thurr, Principal Director, DoHFW, emphasized the significance of Primary Health Centers as the community’s first point of contact. He urged Medical Officers to uphold medical ethics and commit to delivering comprehensive healthcare services.

Meanwhile, Dr. E. Motsuthung Patton, Mission Director, National Health Mission (NHM), appealed to doctors to ensure quality healthcare for every citizen and transform the public health system in the state. Dr. Mereninla Senlem, State Program Officer, NHM, provided an overview of CPHC, emphasizing its aim to reduce out-of-pocket expenses and bring healthcare closer to the people.

Chunlikha Primary Health Center (PHC) was felicitated during the inaugural program for receiving the National Quality Assurance Standard (NQAS) Certification from the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. Dr. Cheyale Kath, M.O in-charge of the PHC, received the award.

The Inaugural program was chaired by Dr. Manyau, Deputy Director, National Health Mission, and concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Akuo Sorhie, Director, Health, DoHFW.

During the five-day training, Medical Officers will be trained on twelve expanded packages of services including Care in Pregnancy and Childbirth, Neonatal and Infant Health Care Services, Family Planning, Management of Communicable and Non-communicable Diseases, Basic Oral Health Care, Elderly and Palliative Health Care Services, and Emergency Medical Services.
