Food Safety officers of Directorate of Health & Family Welfare carried out an inspection of Popsicle Ice Cream Factory in Dimapur following a video report by a news channel based in Nagaland. The report had exposed the unhygienic working environment at the factory.
During the inspection, the Food Safety team collected samples from the factory for Quality Testing at State Food NABL (National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories) accredited laboratory, DIPR informed.

Consequently, H&FW through the State Programme Officer (Food Safety), Dr John Kemp issued an improvement notice to the proprietor of Popsicle Ice Cream Factory under section 32 of the FSS Act’ 2006. The officer had granted 14 days’ time to take corrective measures as per the FSSA Rules and Regulations, failing which legal course of action shall be initiated against the Food Business Operator.
This comes just days after the Nagaland with the rest of the world observed 5th World Food Safety Day on 7 June where Y Kikheto Sema, IAS, Commissioner of Food Safety and Commissioner and Secretary of H&FW stressed that everybody should be able to enjoy food that is safe and meets high standards. He had also assured the department’s commitment to carry out “massive and effective surveillance, monitoring of food products in the state for the safety of our people” once it is sufficiently equipped with machinery and manpower.
