Nagaland’s lone MP in the Lok Sabha S Supongmeren Jamir has raised an important matter under Rule 377 in the Parliament concerning long-standing recruitment issues that have adversely affected eligible candidates from Nagaland in the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) examinations.
Jamir highlighted that as per the Employment News/Rozgar Samachar notification dated 23.03.2013, SSC had advertised vacancies for (1) Programme Executive and (2) Transmission Executive (Production Assistant) (15) posts for Doordarshan and All India Radio in Nagaland. However, no candidates from Nagaland could qualify, primarily due to the Hindi Paper–II requirement, which created a major barrier for aspirants from the state.

Pointing out the serious staff shortages currently prevailing in central broadcasting institutions in Nagaland, the MP referenced that the Doordarshan Kendra Kohima has a total 144 sanctioned posts, out of which, only 55 are occupied and the remaining 89 posts are lying vacant.
Similarly, he said, in All India Radio Kohima programme section, only 15 out of 79 sanctioned posts are in position, leaving 64 vacant. In the administration staff, he said out of 90 sanctioned posts, 56 are lying vacant, while there are 50 engineering posts that are vacangt against a sanctioned 91 posts.
Jamir stressed that such a large number of vacancies is severely affecting the functioning and outreach of public broadcasting services in the state, which are crucial for information dissemination, cultural preservation, and regional representation.
The MP has urged the concerned Ministry to consider a special recruitment drive for Nagaland with relaxation of the Hindi requirement and to conduct Paper I and II in English, ensuring equal opportunity for qualified local youth.
He reaffirmed that recruitment policies must be inclusive and sensitive to the linguistic realities of the North Eastern region, and that deserving candidates should not be denied opportunities due to language barriers unrelated to job performance.
