Dr Chumben Murry said that it is a historic occasion for a candidate to be backed by all MLAs in the State Legislative Assembly and that he is the beneficiary of such unity. He also expressed that he would be proud to represent the people of Nagaland in the Parliament and acknowledged the “enormous responsibility” of being the consensus candidate of the 60 Legislators of the ‘opposition-less’ People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) Government for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

During the launch of the election campaign in Chümoukedima on Monday, Dr Murry, who belongs to Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), also said that with this support, he hopes to win by a huge margin.

“If I win, I will see to it that I carry the wisdom of our legislators and the ways of the people of Nagaland”, Dr Chumben Murry affirmed.

Speaking at the programme, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio informed that the NDPP had been in alliance with BJP for over 20 years and asserted that this alliance is “an opportunity for the State to have peace in our land, unite and take development opportunities.”

Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton declaring BJP’s support for Dr Chumben Murry, urged BJP Nagaland President Benjamin Yepthomi to take immediate action against any karyakartas (party workers) who act against the consensus candidate in the Lok Sabha election.

Patton stated that he thought the PDA candidate would win the coming election unopposed and remarked that even though there is a Congress candidate and an Independent candidate in the fray, they are no competition for Dr Murry.

The programme was chaired by Charlie Sekhose, Senior Vice President of NDPP, Pastor Zhau Sanchu from CRC Sovima, invoked blessings for the event and its participants and Benjamin Yepthomi delivered the welcome address. The other speakers included Chingwang Konyak, PDA & President, NDPP, Nalin Kohli, National Spokesperson, BJP & Incharge of Nagaland, Kuzholuzo Nienu, MLA (NPF), Er. Picto, MLA (NCP), Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhutso, MLA (NPP), Dr. Sukhato, MLA (LJP (RV)), Lima Onen Chang, MLA (RPI (A), Er. Jwenga Seb, MLA (JD (U)), and Dr. Neisatuo Mero, MLA (Independent). The Vote of Thanks was delivered by N. Bendang Jamir, Working President of NDPP.
