Home Department notifies on criteria for recognition of new villages in Nagaland

The Home Department (General Administration) has issued an office memorandum regarding the criteria/conditions for recognition of new villages in Nagaland.

In continuation to guidelines contained in the Department’s O.M No. GA-12/13/74 dated 22/03/96 and O.M No GAB-1/COM/108/2005 dated 01/10/2005 and also as per Cabinet’s approval conveyed vide letter No. CAB-1/14/2023 dated 22/01/2025, the minimum area required for recognition of a new village is set at 1000 (One thousand) acres.

Further, all other conditions/criteria laid down in the referred Office Memoranda shall remain the same, informed the memorandum.

“The Land Records & Survey Department will be the verifying agency. The District Administration shall ensure strict adherence to all the criteria/conditions mentioned in the O.Ms while forwarding the cases to the Commissioner, Nagaland. The Commissioner, Nagaland shall further examine the proposals before forwarding the cases to the Government,” it added.
