Hornbill Festival Day-10: Cultural show concludes

The last cultural programme of the 23rd Hornbill Festival 2022 organised by the Department of Culture was held today at Kisama.

Director, Ministry of Cultural, Government of India, Deepak Israni was the special guest and Minister for Rural Development Metsubo Jamir the honored guest.

The host of the morning session was Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Yanthungo Patton.

Advisor for Prisons, Printing and Stationary H Haiying, Special Secretary (Home) S R Saravan, IPS, and other dignitaries accompanied the Dy CM.

Cultural performances were presented by the Chakhesang, Pochury, Sumi, Kuki, Ao and Kachari Cultural Troupes.

The Chakhesang Cultural Troupe demonstrated the significance of Sűkrűnye and the activities held during the Feast of Merit. They threw a piece of meat to the audience and a lucky person received it to the delight of the crowd.

Starting the afternoon show, the Rengma Cultural Troupe performed a folk dance called Sükhunki which is performed by both men and women and involves jumping and leaping accompanied by a sustained war cry. This is performed during the Rengma premier festival, the Ngada festival. Following the programme, three ladies from the Angami Cultural Troupe presented the action song Tsaho Kroko.

The Wangala dance performed by Garo Cultural Troupe, Ekranipathr village mesmerised the crowd. The dance signifies thanksgiving to the Sun God or Misi Saljong.

Others cultural troupes that performed included Garo, Zeliang, Lotha, Sumi, and Ao groups.

The crowd also received new Miss Nagaland 2022 Hikali Achumi from Zunheboto district, 1st runner-up Kenei Ritse, Phek district, and 2nd runner-up, Jentiren Jamir from Mokokchung district.
