Hornbill Festival Day-7: cultural performances by various Northeastern communities

Kohima: At the ‘Cultural Connect’ segment at Kisama, cultural groups from Tripura, Arunachal, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Assam, Sikkim and Manipur showcased their rich colourful dances and songs

Day-7 of the Hornbill festival saw various cultural artists from the Northeastern states performing their rich traditional dances and songs at Naga Heritage Village, Kisama.

The morning session was graced by Y K Chaubey, Chairman and Managing Director, National Hydroelectric Power Corporation as the chief guest and Medo Yhokha, Advisor Technical Education, Election as the host.

The various states of the Northeastern Cultural Artists showcased their colourful cultural dances and songs during the morning and evening cultural sessions. The performances were:

Hozagiri cultural dance – Reang community, Tripura

Erap Hanam dance – Galo community, Arunachal

Cheraw dance – Mizo community, Mizoram

Shad Pliang folk dance – Jaintia community, Meghalaya

Doh Mahi KIKan dance – Karbi Community, Assam

Singhi Chham (The Mount Kanchanjunga Snow Lion) dance –Bhutia Community, Sikkim

Pung Cholom dance, Dhol Dholak Cholom, Cheirol Jagoi Stick Dance and Thang-Ta Martial Art –Meitei Community, Manipur

In the evening session, the chief guest was Admiral R Hari Kumar, Chief of Navy Staff while the host was V Kashiho Sangtam, Minister for Soil and Water Conservation, Geology and Mining.

R Hari Kumar thanked and expressed his best wishes to the people and hoped that the Hornbill festival would be a channel of blessing to the people of the state and the countries as well.

He also said the festival has been given a landmark in the tourist calendar across the globe and mentioned that around 200 personnel from Nagaland are serving in different categories in the field of Navy.

He encouraged the younger generation to join for a short period of four years to avail themselves of the opportunities in the field of the Navy to serve the nation in different capacities.
