Keleno Thorie who ranked 19 (c) with a score of 95.33 percent in the HSLC exam this year is from Trinity School Kohima.
The youngest daughter of Kuolhoulie Thorie and Khrieno Thorie, Keleno hails from Kigwema village. Attributing her success to God for helping her reach this position, Keleno said that this success had been possible through the many prayers of her parents, families and loved ones.
What made her achievement stand out is that Keleno is the youngest of the four siblings who has been securing top positions in their HSLC exams in Nagaland. In 2015, the eldest among the siblings, Kesino Thorie secured Rank 9 (recently graduated in BVSc, 2024) followed by Kethono Thorie securing Rank 7 who is currently in her second year of MBBS.
In 2021, the third sibling Keneino Thorie secured Rank 1 in HSLC, who also went on to secure Rank 6 in HSSLC (Arts) last year.

“I’m the youngest in my family and I have three older sisters. We have all studied and completed our high school educations in Trinity School, Kohima. I have always wanted to follow my sisters’ footsteps to top the exams,” says Keleno who plans to take up Arts stream.
Speaking to Nagaland Tribune, Keleno mentioned that she did not really have a specific time management or study routine. “I didn’t really maintain any study routine but I tried to keep in touch with my books daily for atleast 2 to 3 hours but during the exam season, I studied for 8 to 10 hours,” she shared.
On normal days, the topper made it a habit to try to finish her homework and assignments by evening and study at night. “Whenever I study, I tried to not get distracted and put my whole mind and concentration. Going through the previous year questions and studying based on NBSE blueprints really helped me get the idea of the questions and syllabus,” added Keleno.
Prayer and taking adequate break during her studies played a major role in her success, according to Keleno who is also of the view that family support is a must for these achievements.

Being calm and having a positive mindset also helped her get through her hard times. The teachers’ notes and assistance at Trinity School, going previous years questions, researching in the internet for additional information and the NBSE blueprints also helped her to study smart. She emphasized focusing on topics, revisiting notes, and prioritizing Science and Maths. Repeatedly going through her notes and textbooks aided in retaining information.
The topper also highlighted the importance of addressing weaker subjects by focusing more on Science and Maths, solving more problems, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
“My hobby of drawing and creating art served as a mental refreshment and improved concentration,” expressed Keleno. She also acknowledged the administrators, headmaster, and teachers for their interactive and supportive approach, encouraging academic success.
“Give your best, pray for wisdom, don’t stress. Encourage each other, embrace opportunities, and appreciate support from loved ones,” advised Keleno.
