Often teachers and mentors advise students to find ways that best suit them to help them fully absorb the lessons. Some students play loud music, some study under the blanket while some prefer being in a crowded room with their books, some prefer writing down instead of reading out, some need to munch and keep on munching, and so on. It may seem unusual but at the end of the day, what works for you, works for you. No apologies required.

Vitsino Ltu, HSSLC Arts Stream Top 6, has her own peculiar techniques of studying. The first one involves explaining any text or note to herself in her own dialect. She swears that this helps her in understanding and retaining even the lengthiest answers during exams.

Another study technique which Vitsino finds effective for her is waking up around 1:00 – 2:00 am and studying since she is more productive in the morning. She also mentions that she gives her full focus during her study time.

A student of Mezhür Higher Secondary School, Kohima, Vitsino points out the vital role played by the school and her teachers in her success while disclosing that she never aimed or dreamed of becoming a State Topper. I was only aiming to get distinction in all the subjects, the 19-year-old says.

Daughter to Mehopi Ltu and Khruhisule Ltu, she says she is grateful for her family’s support.

While preparing for the exam, Vitsino relied on her textbooks, study video-based materials and personal notes.

Her advises to fellow students are:

– give time to God and to read the Bible

– organise your space

– eat healthy and nutritious food

– limit screen time

– find ways to make studying interesting
