The stage is all set to host India’s International Movement to Unite Nations (I.I.M.U.N) state level conference of Nagaland at G. Rio School Kohima from 25-27 May 2023, in commemoration of I.I.M.U.N 12th anniversary.
I.I.M.U.N is a youth organisation comprising of 26,000 young organisers who put together student conferences in 220 cities and 35 countries, and work with over 7,500 schools impacting 10 million students. I.I.M.U.N has been the World’s largest education conference brand, having organised the World’s Largest MUN simulation in Mumbai among many other simulations. It is also the first organisation to conduct multiple MUN conferences inside the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
Kevino Savino, Dean, G. Rio School who has been organising I.I.M.U.N conference in the school since 2017 shares that the journey and the experience has always been wonderful, and the conference provides a platform to students to boost or build their Platform speaking skills. “It’s very beneficial, especially when it comes to students,” added Savino.
Savino believes that the platform provided by I.I.M.U.N to young people helps them to voice out, discuss and debate on issues faced by them in local, regional, national and international levels, which she says, is a big encouragement for the young people.
According to Savino, she observes that in Naga society many young naga people are aware of the issues confronting them, the State and although they want to voice out, they choose to remain quite as they lack the confidence of expressing. She says, “I feel this is a platform, the I.I.M.U.N event hosted in our school is a platform where they get to voice out.”
During the three days conference, students will be allotted to different committees and portfolio will be given to them, following the model of United Nations and its functions.
“Representatives of different countries brings their issues in the assembly and they discuss, debate and resolve the issues. That is what is happening in this platform,” said Savino.
Savino feels that young people should participate in such platforms as the I.I.M.U.N where they learn and are given the opportunity to speak out.
“Naga Youth should be able to stand and fight for their rights,” she added.
She also encouraged the Naga youths to have the confidence to come out and voice out and express themselves and not only listen.
