The International Border Area Peoples’ Welfare Organization (IBAPWO) has on Sunday raised serious concern over damage caused to the only accessible road by landslide in Mimi area in Kiphire district.
Due to continuous heavy rainfall over the past few days, the lifeline road connecting Mimi and its surrounding villages-namely Khongka, Betang, Mutingkhong, Lofukhong, Hakumuti, and Khaha-has been completely cut off, the organization stated in a press release.
It explained that a major landslide and overflowing streams have damaged the only accessible road in the area, forcing villagers to risk their lives crossing bamboo bridges over turbulent waters.
“This disruption has not only caused immense hardship to the villagers but has also created a state of panic among them. With no proper access to health facilities, markets, or emergency services, the situation is becoming dire by the day. Children, women, and elderly residents are the worst affected,” the IBAPWO stated.

To this end, the organization appealed to the concerned authorities and government departments to urgently assess the ground situation and take swift action for restoration of road connectivity, provision of relief materials, and long-term infrastructure planning to prevent such vulnerabilities in the future.
