Mhathung Yanthan, Advisor for Agriculture, Government of Nagaland, conducted a physical inspection of the ongoing Mangmetong-Doyang road construction project in Wokha district on Wednesday, May 7. The road is being built under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY)-III initiative.
During the visit, Yanthan engaged with villagers impacted by the project and encouraged their continued support for the construction work. He underscored the importance of the road, describing It as not only highly desired by the community but also essential for improving regional connectivity. Yanthan highlighted that the road would serve as a vital route for the Sungro Range and provide crucial links to neighbouring districts, including Mokokchung.
Emphasising the significance of the project for local development, Yanthan expressed the community’s strong desire for the road to be completed on time. He stressed that the work should be of high quality and should not be compromised. However, he acknowledged that progress had not yet reached the desired pace and called on the contractors to accelerate their efforts to ensure the civil works are completed by June, as per the initial commitment.

In his address, Yanthan reminded the contractors of the trust placed in them by the people, noting that the project had begun with a significant inaugural event, marking a key development for the region. He also took the opportunity to commend the affected villagers for their support and encouraged them to stay engaged with the project’s progress. He urged the community to recognise the long-term benefits of government schemes and developmental projects, describing them as rare, once-in-a-lifetime opportunities.
The event saw participation from members of the Ao community from Mangmetong and villagers from the Sungro Range. Earlier in the day, the contractor assured both the Advisor and the local councils that earth-cutting work would be completed by June.
The Mangmetong-Doyang road project, launched on 13 September at the Sungro Town Community Hall, is part of the PMGSY initiative—a flagship programme by the central government aimed at enhancing rural road connectivity.
