Ignite FC lifts 2nd SYU Open Futsal Tournament 2024

Ignite FC clinched the second edition of the Salangtem Youth Union Open Futsal Tournament 2024, securing a 1-0 win against G-Sports. The deciding goal was netted by Thejasetuo of Ignite FC in the 5th minute.

The 2nd SYU Open Futsal Tournament, held from March 26 to 27 at Mojabi Futsal Turf, Salangtem Ward, Mokokchung, was organized by the Salangtem Youth Union under the auspices of the Mokokchung District Football Association (MDFA), with the theme ‘Focus to Endure’ and Nagaland Minerals and Mines as its official partner. The tournament featured twenty-two (22) participating teams, attracting players from Mokokchung District and beyond, including Kohima and Dimapur. Notably, 31 teams had participated in the inaugural edition of the SYU Open Futsal Tournament in June 2023.

Ignite FC, the champions, received a cash prize of Rs. 60,000/- along with the trophy. G-Sports, the first runners-up, were awarded Rs. 40,000/-, while Trebuchet FC, the second runners-up, received Rs. 10,000/-. Individual prizes totalled Rs. 10,000/-.

Imkumer from Ignite FC was named the Best Goalkeeper, with Temsuyanger Chargers FC clinching the title of Highest Goal Scorer with 13 goals. Vanim from Trebuchet FC was awarded the title of Most Promising Player, and Rato from Ignite FC was honored as the Player of the Tournament. Genesis FAC received the award for Best Discipline.

Colonel Rahul Gurung Kirti Chakra, Commandant of the 12 Assam Rifles, Mokokchung, graced the event as the Guest of Honour. In his address, he lauded the abundant talent of the Mokokchung people and commended the SYU for organizing the tournament excellently, providing a platform for youth to excel in sports. He highlighted the global popularity of futsal as a major sporting event and praised the MDFA for fostering various sports platforms.

Additionally, he encouraged youth to consider joining the armed forces through schemes such as Agni Veer and SSC to serve as ranks. He expressed gratitude for the 76 Youth who registered in the Agni Veer Scheme and mentioned that the battalion provides free coaching at the headquarters to guide them through the exams.

The closing ceremony was chaired by Tiakala Longkumer, Monglier. Asso. Pastor. MTBA pronounced the invocation while Longshina presented a special number.
