IIM Shillong Rural Outreach Program held at Longpayimsen; Books donated to set up village library

The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong on April 26 conducted a Rural Outreach program under the theme “Empowering Longpayimsen Through Knowledge and Innovation” at the Multipurpose Hall, Longpayimsen.

The event featured prominent speakers including Atul Kulkarni, Member of the Board of Governors, IIM Shillong; Dr. Sanjeev Ningombam, Centre Head of Dr. Kalam Centre, IIM Shillong; and Dr. Bendangienla Aier, Project Manager of IIM Shillong Foundation for Incubation & Enterprises.

Capt. (Dr.) Ashutosh Vijay Apandkar, Principal of Training Ship Rahaman and Executive Council Member of Indian Maritime University, participated as the Resource Person.

Dr. Sanjeev spoke to the students present about entrepreneurship as a means to build a great future, considering the natural resources available in and around the village. He also advised the youth to take advantage of the structured training programs conducted at IIM Shillong to hone their skills.

Atul Kulkarni, Member of the BoG at IIM Shillong, highlighted the achievements of IIM Shillong as one of the leading institutions in the country, which indicates the potential of the Northeast Region (NER). As the only institution of its kind in the region, IIM Shillong strives to connect with the communities around through its Community Immersion Program.

Kulkarni remarked “This particular event, aimed at setting up a library in Longpayimsen village, is laudable and will undoubtedly improve both intellectual knowledge and awareness of global history among the village people.”

As part of its Outreach Program, IIM Shillong handed over a collection of books to the Longpayimsen Village Council for the establishment of a library to benefit the residents of the village. The initiative aims to help young people build their character and broaden their vision through access to quality reading materials.

IIM Shillong, the only Indian Institute of Management in the entire Northeast region, has been consistently engaging with local communities to develop various skills and competencies among the youth.

The program was hosted by Takojungla, with an invocation prayer led by R. Moa, Pastor of LYBC. A welcome address was delivered by Easther, followed by a discussion session. The Vote of Thanks was pronounced by R. Meren Aier, V.C.C., and the program concluded with a benediction by Wangshimongla.
