Mokokchung: Team Manager of Peren DVA expresses joy at winning all matches and topping Pool D, securing spot in quarters

The second day of the Imchaba Master Memorial Nagaland Open Volleyball Trophy 2023 witnessed sixteen volleyball matches at the Multi-Sports Complex in Mokokchung on September 20.

In the first match of the second day, Spartan Club Lakhuni, after losing two consecutive matches, secured its first win against Tongden Club B Chungtia by scores of 25-16, 25-13.

G Sports Mokokchung lost to the dark horse of the tournament, Chienino Brothers Kiruphema from Kohima, in an exciting match. Kiruphema won the first set 25-23, but G Sport Mokokchung bounced back in the second set with a 25-15 victory. Chienino Brothers ultimately clinched the match by winning the deciding set 15-10.

Evergreen Club Ungma suffered a defeat against Kumlong Sporting Association with scores of 25-19, 25-20, while J.N Aier Memorial Club Yajang C dominated FAC with a score of 26-24, 25-8.

Ozümi Volleyball Team defeated Archippus Club Dimapur in straight sets, 25-14, 25-18, securing their third consecutive win in Pool C and earning a spot in the knockout stage.

In an intense match, Longsa Sporting Club lost to United Changki by scores of 25-23, 12-25, 10-15. Changki made a comeback in the decisive set after Longsa initially held an advantage.

Kumlong Ward had a tough time against Peren District Volleyball Association, as Peren secured their second win from Pool D. Kumlong won the first set 21-25, but Peren came back strong to win the next two sets 25-12 and 15-10.

Changtongya Volleyball Association ‘A’ ended Spartan Club Lakhuni’s journey with a victory of 25-19, 25-7. Changtongya now faces G Sports Mokokchung in a crucial match.

New entrant G-Sports Mokokchung dominated Tongden Club B with scores of 25-6, 25-10, securing their second win after losing to Chienino Brothers Kiruphema in their previous match.

Defending Champion MH10 dominated Evergreen Club Ungma and won in straight sets by scores of 25-14, 25-14. Kumlong Sporting Association, the Champion of the Inter Ward Volleyball Tournament 2023, secured their second win by defeating JN Aier Memorial Club Yajang C with scores of 25-17, 25-16.

Ozumi Volleyball Team continued to dominate Pool C, defeating Tongpang Club Tzürangkong with scores of 25-10, 25-10. With this win, Ozumi became the top team in Pool C and advanced to the knockout stage.

Archippus Club Dimapur lost to Longsa Sporting Club in a deciding set. Archippus won the first set 25-23, but Longsa rebounded to take the next two sets 20-25 and 12-15.

Tongden Club – A eliminated Kumlong Ward from the tournament with scores of 25-20, 16-25, 15-12. Kumlong Ward put up a strong fight but ultimately lost in the deciding set.

The Peren District Volleyball Association qualified for the quarterfinals after a thrilling match against Changtongya Volleyball Association B. Changtongya B won the first set 25-23, but Peren strategized their team and won the remaining sets 21-25 and 11-15.

FAC was eliminated from the tournament after losing to Kumlong Sporting Association with scores of 11-25, 7-25. Kumlong qualified for the quarterfinals from Pool B.

Spartan Club Lakhuni, Evergreen Club Ungma, FAC, and Kumlong Ward have all been eliminated from the tournament from Pools A, B, and D, respectively. Ozümi Volleyball Team from Pool C and Peren District Volleyball Association from Pool D have secured spots in the quarterfinals.

Chienino Brothers Kiruphema Kohima remains the top team in Pool A with three consecutive wins and will play against Tongden Club – B tomorrow to enter the quarters. MH10 dominates Pool B with three consecutive wins, and they will face JN Aier Memorial Club Yajang C in their last league match.

Ilung Newmai, Team Manager of Peren District Volleyball Association, expressed their joy at winning all the matches and topping Pool D, securing a spot in the quarters. He mentioned that 11 members, including eight players and three officials, have come from Peren. He said that the team is expecting victory in the upcoming matches and looking forward to more experiences through the game.

Six more league matches will be played tomorrow from 11:00 AM, with the remaining teams vying for spots in the quarterfinals, which will take place from 5:30 PM onwards.
