IMD forecasts thunderstorms with lightning, gusty winds, heavy rainfall in over NE during 18th-22nd April

New Delhi: cyclonic circulation lies over Bangladesh and neighbourhood, another over northeast Assam in lower tropospheric levels

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has on Thursday forecasted thunderstorms with lightning, gusty winds and heavy rainfall in Isolated places over North East India during 18th-22nd April 2024.

In its press release, IMD stated that a cyclonic circulation lies over Bangladesh and neighbourhood and another over northeast Assam in lower tropospheric levels, due to which the following weather conditions can be expected during the period:

  1. Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall/snowfall with isolated thunderstorm and lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) very likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura during 18th-22nd April 2024.
  2. Scattered to fairly widespread light/moderate rainfall/snowfall with isolated thunderstorm and lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) very likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during 18th-21st April 2024.
  3. Isolated heavy rainfall very likely over Arunachal Pradesh during 19th-22nd; Assam and Meghalaya during 19th-21st and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura during 18th-21st April 2024. Isolated very heavy rainfall also very likely over Arunachal Pradesh on 20th April 2024.
