The indefinite total vehicular bandh on the Dr Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital (IMDH) in Mokokchung has been postponed, the Core Committee of Penli, Majakong, Lijaba Lijen and Artang informed in a letter addressed to the Advisor, Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, dated 2 December 2022.

The youth associations had earlier proposed an indefinite bandh from Police Point and the approach road to IMDH from Sewak Gate starting from 2 December 2022 after receiving no response from the government to its requests and ultimatums.

However, Mokokchung Times, on 1st December, reported that the Urban Development Department (UDD) had “finally released the amount sanctioned for repairing the debilitated hospital road in Mokokchung town” and that the “work will commence once all the formalities are completed by the Urban Engineering Wing under UDD”.

In the letter to the advisor,  the committee stated that the blockage will be postponed in “good faith and to facilitate the urban Development” following the release of the fund.

The committee however said the postponement will be for a period of 14 days, stating that “During this fortnight, it is expected that the Urban Engineering Wing, DUD, will complete the necessary works in earnest and start the repair work as soon as possible.”

Further, if necessary “official works” are not completed by 15 December, the Core Committee of the four wards will “carry on our own course of action, and the consequences thereof will be borne solely by the government”, it added.
