The Ministry of External Affairs has called for “immediate de-escalation, exercise of restraint, stepping back from violence and return to the path of diplomacy” after Iran launched attacks on Israel on Sunday night.

India said that it was seriously concerned at the escalation on hostilities which threatens the peace and security in the region. The Ministry further said that it was monitoring the evolving situation and its Embassies in the region were in close contact with the Indian community.

Just two days back, the Ministry had advised Indian nationals not to travel to the conflicting countries.

Iran launched over 300 threats of various types at Israel

Late on Sunday, the Spokesperson of Israel Defence Forces (IDF), Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari informed that Iran launched over 300 threats of various types at Israel including approximately 170 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), 30 cruise missiles and over 120 ballistic missiles on Sunday night.

However, 99% of these threats were intercepted by IDF along with its coalition, Hagari said, adding that “Iran hoped to incapacitate the base and thus impair our aerial capabilities, but it failed.”

The Spokesperson claimed that in addition to the launches from Iran, several launches were made from the territories of Iraq and Yemen but none of them crossed into Israeli territory. In recent hours, dozens of rockets were fired from Lebanese territory toward the north; there were no casualties, he also said.

Further, Hagari asserted that the threat is not over and reminded the public in Israel of the guidelines issued by the Home Front Command which has put restrictions on gatherings and educational activities.

World cannot afford more war

Meanwhile in Secretary-General of United Nations, Antonio Guterres remarked during the emergency Security Council session on the matter, “The people of the region are confronting a real danger of a devastating full-scale conflict.”

In his address, Guterres told the members that they have a shared responsibility to work for peace and stated that “Neither the region nor the world can afford more war.”

Lies and disinformation being used to discredit Iran’s right to self-defense

During the Session, the Iranian Ambassador, Amir Saed Iravani, slammed Israel’s “false and unsubstantiated claims” and reiterated Iran’s consistent position that it does not seek escalation or war in the region.

He also said that it was regrettable that certain Council members, including the US, the UK, and France had chosen to “turn a blind eye to reality” and overlook the root causes contributing to the current situation.

“In hypocritical behavior, these three countries falsely blamed and accused Iran without considering their own failures to uphold their international commitments to peace and security in the region,” said Ambassador Iravani, calling out what he saw as “lies and disinformation” being used to discredit Iran’s right to self-defense.

“While warning about any further military provocations by the Israeli regime, the Islamic Republic of Iran reaffirms its unwavering determination to defend its people, national security and interests… [we] will not hesitate to exercise this right when required,” he explained
