On the occasion of India’s 78th Independence Day, the Indian Red Cross Society, Nagaland State Branch, carried out a significant humanitarian initiative by visiting the District Jail Kohima. The visit, held on the morning of August 15, was marked by the distribution of essential hygiene kits and ration supplies to the inmates, reaffirming the Society’s commitment to humanitarian service and the well-being of all individuals, including those within the correctional system, informed a press release.
The visit was aimed at addressing the basic needs of the inmates, promoting hygiene, and ensuring that they have access to necessary provisions. A total of 72 inmates benefited from this outreach program, receiving hygiene kits that included essential items such as soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, sanitary items, and other personal care products. Additionally, ration supplies were distributed to support the nutritional needs of the inmates.

Speaking on the occasion, the General Secretary of the Indian Red Cross Society, Nagaland State Branch, emphasized the importance of reaching out to vulnerable sections of society, including those in correctional facilities. “The spirit of the Red Cross is to serve humanity, and our visit to the District Jail Kohima on Independence Day reflects our dedication to ensuring that every individual, regardless of their circumstances, is treated with dignity and compassion,” she said.
The Assistant Jailer of District Jail Kohima expressed gratitude to the Indian Red Cross Society for their thoughtful gesture. He highlighted the positive impact such initiatives have on the inmates, not only in terms of providing for their material needs but also in uplifting their spirits.
