The Mokokchung District Bharat Scouts & Guides (BSG) Induction Ceremony took place today at the DC Conference Hall, Mokokchung, marking an important event for the youth movement.
In a brief speech, Imlisunep ASOC (S) Nagaland, Kohima, highlighted the historical significance of the BSG movement, which traces its origins back to Lord Baden Powell in 1907. He emphasized that the Bharat Scouts & Guides is a voluntary and non-political educational movement aimed at young people, welcoming individuals from all backgrounds.

The movement’s purpose is to help young people reach their full potential physically, intellectually, emotionally, socially, and spiritually while instilling the values of Duty to God, Duty to Others, and Duty to Self, Imlisunep highlighted.
He noted that what sets the BSG apart is its unique approach to progressive self-education through the Promise and Law, coupled with a hands-on “learning by doing” method. The BSG is not confined to a district or state but is a global movement, making it one of the largest voluntary youth movements worldwide. Presently, it is represented by two major organizations: the World Organization of Scout Movement, with over 55 million scouts in 216 countries and territories, and the World Association of Girls Guides and Scouts, with 10 million members in 152 countries and five regions. India is unique in consolidating the movement under the Bharat Scouts and Guides, comprising four distinct sections.
Imlisunep ASOC (S) Nagaland emphasized that the movement, while non-political, seeks involvement from government officials and bureaucrats to expand its reach and guide more young people effectively. Currently, the BSG is actively engaged in sustainable development efforts, calling for cooperation in terms of human and financial resources and expanding outreach to schools.
Thsuvisie Phoji NCS DC & President BSG, MKG, expressed his pride in the pioneering role of Mokokchung district in establishing the BSG. He stressed the importance of its continued growth and enrollment in all institutions, acknowledging the district’s valuable contributions.
Tovili Wati DOC (G) welcomed four dynamic leaders who were inducted during the ceremony, a first for the district. She lamented that only six out of 11 BSG units in Mokokchung district are currently active and urged the District Education Officer (DEO) and SDEO to pay more attention to the BSG in the education system. She highlighted the focus on Government High School (GHS) and Government Middle School (GMS), where students learn discipline and moral principles under the motto “Be prepared.”
Tovili Wati also announced the upcoming Bharat Scouts & Guides Platinum Jubilee in 2025, with two years left for preparations. Mokokchung district, as a pioneer in the BSG in the state, aims to significantly increase enrolment in anticipation of this milestone, seeking both activity-based engagement and financial assistance.
The induction ceremony honoured Thsuvisie Phoji, NCS as District President, Jonglemdong Lkr Sr. SDEO as District Secretary, Anguvito Sumi DSO as District Commissioner (S), and Sentinela DEO as District Chief Commissioner.
