Inter School Athletic Meet Under “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” Inaugurated at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima

Kohima: Advisor School Education and SCERT, Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, praised the girls for their exceptional achievements in various fields, including academics and politics.

The two-day inter school athletic meet under the “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” initiative commenced at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in Kohima. The event aims to promote the importance of educating and empowering girls.

The special guest of the occasion, Advisor School Education and SCERT, Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, praised the girls for their exceptional achievements in various fields, including academics and politics. He highlighted the significance of their contributions and celebrated the presence of female legislators from Nagaland, symbolizing progress and gender equality after 50 years of statehood.

Mr. Yhome also acknowledged the existing social and cultural barriers that create differences among individuals. He called for collective efforts to overcome these obstacles and promote equality in all aspects of life.

Congratulating the girls for their outstanding performance in exams, the advisor encouraged healthy competition and urged all participants to strive for excellence.

Furthermore, Mr. Yhome expressed his hope for more such programs in the future, emphasizing the need to celebrate sports and provide platforms for competition, recognizing its positive impact on individuals and society.

During the event, Vikono Kezo and Edikunu Rikha were awarded for their achievements in the field of sports.

A total of 33 schools (9 government schools and 24 private schools) from Kohima district are participating in the event, with around 230 participants under the age of 18 showcasing their athletic prowess.

The program featured a special performance by Virie and concluded with a vote of thanks by Emilo Patton. Linoto Katty led the oath-taking ceremony before officially declaring the tournament open.

The initiative was blessed with an invocation by Atho Sothu, the Assistant Pastor of Lirie Baptist Church.

The event was organized in collaboration with Kohima district administration, District Sports Office Kohima, Kohima District Athletic Association, and the District Hub for Empowerment of Women in Kohima.
