Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, Kumar Ramnikant, IAS on January 27, stated that safety and law and order are not concerns in Nagaland, noting the region’s remarkably low crime rate. He made these remarks while addressing youths from Bihar who are visiting as part of the Inter State Youth Exchange Programme organized by My Bharat and the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS), which commenced in Kohima on January 27.

Reflecting on his years in Nagaland, he emphasized the warm hospitality of its people, who may not be widely recognized outside the region but maintain a strong sense of community. He also highlighted the discipline of the locals, pointing out their organizational skills in managing events and efficient use of resources.

Highlighting the strong sense of community in Nagaland, the Deputy Commissioner mentioned that a significant distinction from other regions is the absence of begging and social isolation, as residents genuinely care for one another and for society as a whole. He acknowledged that while there may be notable differences in lifestyle, culinary preferences, and language, these variations are not incorrect; rather, they reflect diverse cultures and ways of life.

The DC encouraged the youths to become ambassadors for Nagaland upon returning to their home state, urging them to explore and appreciate the differences they encounter compared to their own experiences. He emphasized the importance of broadening their perspectives beyond their home environment and embracing experiences outside their comfort zones.

Ramnikant noted that there is much to learn about Nagaland, and the youths’ three-day visit will only provide a brief glimpse of its richness. He emphasized that programs like this offer young people the chance to grow with a broader understanding of others.

“Even though your visit is short, approach it with a spirit of learning and plan to return to Nagaland,” he encouraged. The DC also reminded the youths of their responsibility to represent their state with integrity and grace, urging them to bring good energy, enthusiasm, and teamwork to the experience.

John Makhabo, State Director of NYKS, delivered the welcome address and provided a brief overview of Nagaland, while the youth team from Bihar presented a special showcase.

Earlier, the programme was chaired by Kevisano Neihu. As part of the ISYEP, 27 youths from 5 districts of Bihar are visiting Nagaland. They will partake tours in local markets, historical places and villages and cultural programme will be held from Janauary 27 to 31.
