Bethel children home Tuensang observed the inter-generational bonding program, organized by the Department of Social Welfare, Government of Nagaland on February 19.
The Department highlighted on the significance of Intergenerational bonding which connects the younger and older generations to promote mutual respect, emotional support and reduce ageism.
“These relationships often involve mentoring and storytelling which decrease social isolation and improve mental health for seniors, while providing children with life experience and purpose,” stated the department. It also suggested activities that can be organised such as storytelling by the elders, personal interaction, children performing for them, plantation drives with the elderly or any other innovative activities.
Yimto, G.B encouraged the children live faithfully, respect the elderly population and to focus in their studies to achieve something for their future.

Proposing the vote of thanks, R. Throngji, Superintendent of the children home, spoke from the Bible citing various bible verses and encouraged the children never to speak harshly to their elders and to respect them.

The programme was concluded with a prayer exchange where the elderly and the children prayed for each other for good health and long life. The children distributed gifts to all the elderly visitors and partook in lunch together as a sign of intergenerational bonding. Fruit trees were also planted at the children’s home garden.
